'Another Brick in the Wall' by Making Matters
Nicky Lawrence, Hermione Thomson, Lene Ryden, Keppel Nowsen and Alice Howard-Graham formed Making Matters, a not for profit artists' group after meeting as Artists in Residence at UCA Farnham. Their first project, Another Brick in the Wall has been a fantastic success. Recently joined by Jane Friend, co-ordinator of World Craft Town Farnham and October Craft Month, Making Matters is going from strength to strength.
'Another Brick in the Wall' is a community art project, celebrating Farnham becoming a World Craft Town. The project has come at a very opportune time, enabling people to work together on their bricks, whilst maintaining social distancing.
All members of the community, from artists, crafts people and students, to local schools, care homes and shops are invited to make their individual designs on raw bricks. The bricks are then fired and made into public art installations around Farnham.
Phase 1, funded by South Street Trust, has generated over 300 carved bricks for the first public art installation, outside the University for the Creative Arts. Making Matters are currently sourcing funding for further workshops and installations. Help support this project:
